ISTTOK
ISTTOK is a small tokamak with a circular cross-section, a poloidal graphite limiter and an iron core transformer. This magnetic confinement experiment has been built from some components of the ex-tokamak TORTUR. The other components of the tokamak, as well as its diagnostics and control and data acquisition system, were designed and constructed by physicists, engineers and technicians of the Association EURATOM/IST.
The objectives of the Project Tokamak ISTTOK are: creation of an experimental pole for fusion plasmas in an academic environment; formation and training of personnel in physics, engineering and technologies associated with nuclear fusion; development of new diagnostic techniques and test of digital instrumentation dedicated to control and data acquisition; realization of a programme of plasma physics studies based on the operation of a tokamak in an alternate plasma current regime and on the influence of electric and magnetic external signals on plasma confinement and stability.

INESC-MN
INESC Microsistemas e Nanotecnologias (INESC MN) is a private, non-profit Research and Development institute created in January, 2002 from the former Solid State Technology group of INESC. INESC MN operates a Class 100/10 cleanroom with optical and e-beam lithography allowing nanoscale device fabrication.
INESC MN is dedicated to: leading edge research and development in strategic technological areas of micro- and nanotechnologies and the application of these technologies to electronic, biological and biomedical devices; advanced training of young scientists and engineers at the university, post-graduate and post-doctoral levels in micro- and nanotechnologies; transfer of technology to both Portuguese and international industries through collaborative research, contract research, prototyping and consulting.

VOXEL - VOlumetric medical X-ray imaging at Extremely Low dose
Computerized Tomography (CT) has been one of the greatest achievements in medical imaging, but at the cost of a high, potentially harmful, X-ray irradiation dose. The ultimate goal of VOXEL is to provide an alternative to tomography with a disruptive technology enabling 3D X-ray imaging at very low dose. VOXEL aims at prototyping new cameras working either in the soft or hard X-rays that will combine the X-ray penetration and nanometre spatial resolution, easiness to use, afforded by avoiding the rotation of the source or the sample, and extremely low dose for maximum impact on medicine and biology.
VOXEL relies on the integration of trans-disciplinary fields in medical imaging, optics, X-ray physics, computational and applied mathematics. The VOXEL team members are experts in X-ray metrology, wavefront sensing, atomic physic, mathematical computing and 3D medical imaging.

LIP
LIP is the Laboratory for Instrumentation and Experimental Particle Physics, that in Portugal concentrates the efforts of participation in experiments at CERN, at the Pierre Auger Observatory, at SNOLAB in Canada, at the International Space Station and at other large scale infrastructures and facilities.
At LIP Lisboa you will talk to particle physicists to discuss what is done in Portugal, see the laboratory facilities used to prepare detectors and components for the big experiments, and learn about the fundamental questions about our universe and our ways to answering them. As the LIP premises are outside the IST Campus/Alameda, the visit to LIP will only be available at the end of the first day.
